Aquarium SharkSharks are some of the most feared animals in the world and every year we hear about swimmers who have been attached by a shark while swimming in some of the tropical waters off of beautiful sandy beaches. Fortunately we can also view sharks in aquariums were we are protected from these fearsome predators. The aquarium shark that many people see in an aquarium is just as fearsome and dangerous as any shark you see in the wild. They are fed on a regular basis and perhaps are not as hungry as a shark might be in the wild, however they still respond to the smell of blood in the water and also fish or humans thrashing about in the water. There are roughly 350 different types of sharks world wide so it is impossible for you to see all of these sharks in an aquarium. The aquarium sharks you can see are usually the most docile of sharks even though they have mouths full of teeth and look quite fearsome. Most will not bother a swimmer or even a diver unless they may be carrying a fish they have speared while swimming in their habitat. One type of aquarium shark is the six gill shark and is the 3 rd largest predatory shark in the world. This shark can grow up to fifteen feet long and you definitely do not want to encounter one of these sharks unless it is on the safe side on the glass in an aquarium. These sharks are sometimes found as aquarium sharks however they are so large only the largest of the aquariums can handle such large predatory fish. The six gill shark is actually on the protected list and many aquariums can provide you information about them, especially those on the pacific north west.
