Aquarium screen savers are all the rage these days with fish swimming across the computer screen making fish like sounds or what we think are fish like sounds. They swim across the screen one after another and entertain us when we are in deep thought about work or some other personal item. These screen savers are not considered live aquariums. Live aquariums on the other hand have real fish and plants that we add to the aquariums and we can change them at will whenever we want to. In fact this is one of the things that many people enjoy the most about live aquariums.
A live aquarium should not be static. In other words a live aquarium is meant to be changed and adjusted to suit our artistic flair and match the decorations in our homes. Many people gain a great deal of enjoyment by decorating their live aquariums with colours that blend in with their homes or accentuate some colour they want to bring out in the aquarium. Every live aquarium must have a specialized light that emits a light that is very similar to that of the sun in terms of spectral frequencies. This type of light is required for your plants as well as your fish to ensure that they stay healthy.
Aquatic
plants can also be added to your live aquarium to add
decoration as well as help control the algae. Aquatic
plants such as water hyacinths will do well in a live
aquarium with the proper lighting conditions and utilize
the natural nutrients in the water as food for the plants.
They compete with the algae and will prevent the growth
of blue and green algae from being added to the walls
of your live aquarium.
We started this article referring to screensavers. A screensaver does not have to deal with any of these issues since it is not part of a live aquarium. Sounds simple, however there are other elements about live aquariums that you need to consider. The water must be continually circulated to introduce oxygen to the water as well as filter the water. The combination of the aquatic plants and the filter in the live aquarium will ensure that your fish and plants have a healthy environment to live in.
The
location of your live aquarium is also important. Probably
the worst place to place a live aquarium is in front
of a southwest window. The heat from the afternoon sun
will heat up the water to an undesirable level and may
even cause significant harm to your fish as well as
making conditions perfect for an algae explosion. If
this should happen to you with your live aquarium, you
will have to temporarily remove your tropical fish and
thoroughly clean your aquarium before adding new water.
Even your gravel, rocks and other items you may have
in your live aquarium must be cleaned. Live aquariums
can be fun and it only takes a few minutes every day
to feed your fish and look after your live aquarium.
